John Ackroyd
Mechanical Designer

After completing an Aero Engineering apprenticeship at Saunders-Roe Ltd which culminated in John undertaking design work on the SR53 Rocket & Jet Interceptor, he went onto work as a Design Engineer on a variety of projects many of these having an aviation theme.  His career has seen him design, build and provide operational support on projects like Thrust & Spirit of America, LandSpeed Records Jetcars.  John has also successfully designed long distance and high altitude pressurised balloon capsules and systems including the successful Lindstrand Atlantic, Pacific and Stratoquest project and Round the World Lindstrand/Branson attempts.  John is probably best known for his role as sole designer and Technical Director of Building and Operation on Thrust2 (Landspeed Jet Car) which successfully set the British Landspeed record in 1983.

John now supports LTL on various design and engineering projects, especially the Lindstrand HiFlyer tethered balloon.
